Madavan, an ambitious youth from Manjakkudi, is enrolled at the Padma Industrial School in Tamil Nadu, India. His father, Paramasivam, is a farm laborer, and his mother, Vijayalakshmi, helps support the rest of the family. Madavan’s father earns just enough money to support Madavan and his three siblings, yet little is left over to support their education.
